David and Jonathan remain faithful to the oath and covenant that binds them together.  Jonathan discovers the full extent of Saul's faithlessness and warns David.  The two have a tearful farewell before David flees for his life.  Faithfulness to solemn promises, consistency of life, and a tender heart are seen here as characteristics of a true believer.
